These are the best Cardano wallets you can use to receive, send and stake Cardano blockchain cryptocurrency ADA (₳)!

Check out the reviews of the best desktop, mobile, browser and web-based Cardano wallets, but also our new Cardano hardware wallets tutorials.

What is Cardano?

Cardano is a groundbreaking proof-of-stake blockchain network, being developed into a decentralized application (DApp) development platform with a multi-asset ledger and verifiable smart contracts.

Cardano blockchain is home to ADA (₳) cryptocurrency.

What is the Cardano wallet?

Cardano wallet is essentially a tool that enables you to interact with the Cardano blockchain.

That way you are able to send, receive, store and stake Cardano’s native cryptocurrency ADA. Some wallets have built-in exchanges so you can also buy or exchange ADA.

With so many security threats in the cryptocurrency world it’s very important to use a safe Cardano wallet. Leaving your ADA (₳) on exchanges is not a smart idea as it puts them in the danger of being stolen or hacked. You will also miss the opportunity to get free ADA rewards through staking it.

How does Cardano wallet works?

When you set up a new Cardano wallet a pair of keys is generated — public and the private key.
Your ADA wallet address is generated using the public key and you can share it to receive ADA. When you are sending ADA the private key is used to digitally sign the transactions which then can be added to the Cardano blockchain ledger. It means the private key must be kept secret.
Depending on how the wallet handles your keys and other functionalities we can differentiate Cardano hot and cold wallets.

Cardano Hot vs Cold wallets

Basically Cardano hot wallet is any wallet that can manage ADA and is connected to internet.

Cold wallets are the hardware wallets — physical devices like Ledger Nano S or Trezor Model T that store your private keys offline.
You can share your ADA hardware wallet address to receive ADA freely.
But in order to send it the transaction must be confirmed on your physical device where it is signed using your private key which is never exposed.
This is why hardware wallets are the best way to keep your ADA safe.

For example Yoroi wallet enables the hardware wallet integration. It acts only on the “front end”. You have all the functions of the regular Yoroi wallet but the point is to send ADA from it you need to confirm the transaction on you physical device where it is internally signed. This makes it almost impossible for hacker to snatch your private key and get access to your ADA.

Paper wallets are the pieces of paper on which crypto address and its private key are physically printed as QR codes that can then be scanned to execute transactions.

Cardano Desktop, Browser, Mobile and Web wallets

Desktop wallet is a software you install and use on your computer.

Browser extension wallets are easy to install and run in your Firefox or Chrome browser.

Mobile wallets are designed for Android and iOS devices and have a neat option to send and receive ADA through the use of QR codes.

Web wallets are browser based Cardano wallets you can use without having to download or install anything.

Which Cardano wallets can be used for Cardano staking?

Daedalus, Yoroi and AdaLite wallets can be used for Cardano staking — delegating your ADA to a stake pool. Daedalus is a robust desktop wallet, Yoroi is a light android and browser extension wallet, while AdaLite is a web wallet!

Can Cardano hardware wallets be used to stake ADA?

Yes. You can use Yoroi or AdaLite to delegate ADA from your Trezor Model T or a Ledger hardware wallet (update the Cardano app!).

So let’s go over the currently best Cardano wallets in 2020 that are fully safe and functional for you to use.

1. Daedalus Wallet

  • Cardano Staking
  • You can create multiple wallets inside Daedalus to diversify ADA spending/staking

2. Yoroi Wallet

Yoroi wallet is the product of Emurgo which drives the adoption of Cardano.

Yoroi is a day to day light wallet for Cardano. It’s very easy to install and use on Android and iOS devices, but also as extension on Chrome and Firefox browsers.

Like all Cardano products in which security is the top priority, it’s been thoroughly tested, security audited, and private keys are fully encrypted which makes it super safe for you to use.

Unlike the Daedalus you don’t have to download the complete blockchain which makes it very fast to download and start using it’s features right away.

You are able to stake ADA from your Yoroi wallet easily. Yoroi also works perfectly with both Ledger Nano S/X and Trezor Model T hardware wallets.

  • Hardware Wallet Integration

Cardano Multi-currency Wallets

Multi-currency wallets that support Cardano come really handy if you want to manage multiple cryptocurrencies. These wallets usually have a built-in exchange that enables you to swap cryptos.

Since you get the address for every cryptocurrency you can for example buy Bitcoin (even directly on some wallets) receive it in your multi-currency wallet and exchange for Cardano (ADA).

You can get free tokens if you apply for airdrops and even participate in certain cryptocurrencies staking and earn returns.

Some of these wallets allow hardware wallet integration, like Ledger, unfortunately Cardano is not yet supported. For these purposes use Yoroi or AdaLite.

4. Infinito Wallet

Infinito wallet can be used on Android and iOS devices. Backup is available through a 12-word passphrase. It supports a big number of cryptocurrencies including ADA. It has some really cool features and the enthusiastic team behind it. You can register for airdrops and receive free tokens but also use an integrated dApps explorer. It’s available in 7 languages and you can choose between 2 crypto and 14 fiat base currencies.

5. Guarda

Guarda is s a non-custodial multi-platform wallet you can use to store, receive and send ADA and 40+ other cryptocurrencies. The user’s personal data or private keys are not stored by the company. You get the encrypted backup to save on your own device, which you can use to restore and access wallet easily with any device connected to the Internet.

Beside Desktop ( Linux, Windows, MacOS), Mobile ( iOS, Android) and Chrome Extension versions you can use to manage your ADA and other assets, Guarda has a very innovative and easy to use Web Wallet. Unfortunately I couldn’t connect it to my Ledger hardware wallet as their interface supports only 6 currencies, and ADA is not one of them yet.

Guarda has a built-in exchange you can use to swap cryptos inside the wallet.

6. Atomic Wallet

Atomic is the all-in-one kind of wallet and has many features, so it can come quite handy for users that wish to hold multiple assets, buy and exchange them inside the wallet . It supports all major operating systems: Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, but also Ubuntu, Debian and Fedora.

Atomic wallet is based on the BitTorrent technology, passwords and data are stored on your device and not kept on any server. It supports over 300 cryptocurrencies including Cardano (ADA).

You are able to buy Bitcoin and 4 other cryptos (not ADA) directly on the wallet (2% fee) with a Credit Card but also exchange it for other cryptocurrencies, this service is powered by Changelly. Also worth mentioning is Atomic is the first cryptocurrency wallet that has its own token ( AWC).

Cardano Hardware Wallets

Hardware wallets are the best way to keep your Cardano (ADA) safe. Hardware wallets are physical devices that keep your private keys which are never exposed and all of the transaction signing processes are done on the hardware device itself and not on the computer or a mobile device.

All computers and mobiles are susceptible to hacking and malware (including the exchanges). Moving funds to a hardware wallet will ensure that your Cardano (ADA) or any other cryptocurrency is as safe as it can possibly be.

7. Ledger Nano S

Ledger Nano S is a hardware wallet that supports over 1100+ cryptocurrencies, which enables you to manage multiple assets, including Cardano (ADA). It works perfectly with Yoroi wallet and AdaLite.

Your private key is protected within a secure chip (the same type used for passports!) locked by a pin code. If your Ledger Nano S is lost or stolen — the recovery phrase enables you to restore all accounts and configuration .

It has an easy to use interface with a display screen and all operations are made by using 2 buttons.

It uses the BOLOS operating system developed by Ledger that creates individual shield around each app on the device securing all of your sensitive information.

How to use Ledger Nano S hardware wallet to keep your Cardano (ADA) safe

After you purchase the Ledger Nano S from the official website connect it to your computer or mobile (it works only when it’s connected to a device) with the USB cable you get in the box.

  • Download and install Ledger Live (works on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android) , open it and install the Cardano (ADA) app.
  • You then open a Yoroi wallet and connect it to your Ledger device!

You can share your new Yoroi Ledger hardware wallet ADA address to receive and store ADA (that is in fact stored on the Cardano blockchain).

But in order to send ADA (and control over addresses) you need to confirm transaction every time on your Ledger Nano S device display. So the transaction is signed internally and the private key never leaves your Ledger Nano S device and is never exposed!

It means no one can use this wallet except you — even if they scrape all the information from your mobile or computer/browser through hacking attacks, malware, viruses.

Being considered by many as the best way to secure your cryptocurrency, and with a price of only 59,00 that includes a free shipping, it’s not surprising that Nano S has already been sold to over 1,500,000 satisfied customers around the globe.

8. Ledger Nano X

Ledger Nano X is a better option than Nano S if you plan to use your Ledger with a mobile device since it enables a Bluetooth connection.

Ledger Nano X also has more storage space and supports more applications (wallets) installed. It can be used without cable so it has a battery with a capacity of 100 mAh, a battery life of up to 8 hours if constantly used, or weeks if idle. It also has a bigger screen (128 x 64).

Ellipal is a very cool and exiting hardware wallet device and a new version 2.1 now supports ADA! Ellipal hardware wallet is completely isolated from all physical and network connections as it doesn’t use the USB cable or Bluetooth. Instead,it works with the Ellipal App on your mobile device via secure and verifiable QR codes.

New version now supports Cardano (ADA) but also some cool new features. You can add 13th word to your 12 words mnemonic seed phrase as for an additional security. The Finance tab can be used to easily and securely exchange coins within the wallet without having to transfer it elsewhere. The sequence numbers were added to mnemonics.

11. Tangem Card

Tangem Card is a physical plastic card and as such a very practical hardware wallet for Cardano. The secure chip in Tangem card holds your private key and ADA safe.

You can verify your balance, store, send and receive ADA by using your NFC-enabled mobile phone and the Tangem App (Android or iOS).

Using Tangem App on your phone you can scan and manage all cards, but also the QR codes of the other Cardano wallets addresses (Yoroi or Daedalus for example) in order to send ADA from your card fast. You can track all your transactions on the blockchain.

Beside Cardano you can also manage Bitcoin, Ethereum (and ERC20 tokens), Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin and Rootstock.

Being very affordable and easy to load Tangem card could also be a very cool gift or way to say thank you using Cardano.
